Commissioned by the City of Waterloo, ON for RIM Park.
The sculpture is inspired primarily by two themes: the function of the space as a sportive and communal meeting place, and the difficulties in representing wind – an invisible, powerful and dynamic entity – which is nonetheless very prominent in the chosen site.
“Rein in the Wind” combines these themes in a whimsical, figurative and metaphorical manner, and invites interaction between the location, its regular visitors, and occasional passers-by. The sculptural elements – a father and son, a soccer ball, and a tree stump – create a scene of interweaving narrative.
